There’s a lot of emphasis on floor plans when you are RV shopping, and for good reason. There are so many to choose from, and they make a huge impact on your RV experience and satisfaction. There’s no one best floorplan: It depends entirely on your lifestyle, just like at home. It’s also true that you have to live with any floorplan a bit to discover what you like and don’t like about it.

When you’re ready to shop, please stop in at Sterling Trailer Sales, where we’ve got a talented team that can help you think through your needs and your options.

Check out our trailers for sale in Dunmore, AB, where we serve our neighbors in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, and Brooks.

Your RVing Style Matters

When you’re choosing your trailer and your floor plan, you need to envision how it will meet your needs before you ever move in. Think about your RVing style. This is much easier if you have some experience with trailers and RVs. Think carefully about how you’ll use your rig. Ask yourself:

  • How many people will be in the trailer? Couples, individuals, and families have different needs.
  • How important is privacy or quiet?
  • Is “roughing it” fun or not fun?
  • Do you plan to move every day or stay put?
  • How long will you travel? Weekends, week-long journeys, or longer? Full-time?
  • Are you prepared to set up and break down beds every night?
  • Where will you stay? RV parks, campgrounds, or undeveloped natural areas?
  • Will you spend most time outdoors or indoors?
  • Slide-outs or no slide-outs?

Thinking Through Your Floorplan

Where is the door? Imagine the traffic flow. Some folks love having the kitchen near the door for easy access, but it also means everyone will walk through the kitchen, which gets old for the cook. Doors are critical fire exits. Are they close to beds?

Is a full bathroom necessary? Many people rely on the showers in campgrounds. Some rigs have the toilet in a separate area from the sink, which is more versatile.

How much storage space do you need? You need room for everyone’s clothing and incidental items. Will you want folding chairs and canopy, and is there room to store them?

Natural light from windows is a big plus, and you need ample windows to enjoy the view of your surroundings. If you are mostly in traditional RV parks, you might not care about seeing neighbors, but if you’re camped out by a lake, you might want to enjoy the view over your morning coffee.

Research Floor Plans

The right floor plan will make all the difference in your RV experience. Talk to friends and family about what they prefer and why. Go to RV shows. Research online for info about why people love and hate various trailer layouts. Ask our salespeople: They have plenty of experience, and they talk to lots of experienced RVers every day.
